Abstract

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the International Court of Justice in The Hague made public its ruling denying the claims that Nicaragua had made, which requested recognition of continental shelf rights extended beyond 200 nautical miles of its coast. all of them within the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf generated by the San Andrés Archipelago and the continental coast of Colombia. The entire Nation, from the government, its institutions and public opinion in general, has recognized the enormous importance of the contribution of the oceanographers and hydrographers of the National Navy of Colombia, in the preparation and elaboration of scientific, technical, nautical charts, high resolution underwater maps, etc., used in the defense of Colombia against the demands and pretensions of Nicaragua.
