Abstract

The variations of zooplankton during tide changes and between June to November 2009 in the Bay of Tumaco have been evaluated in this study. Abundance and wet biomass was variable in the study area, with records of abundance between 342 a 38762 Ind m-3, as well as wet biomass between 0.34 and 23.54 g m-3. No signifi cant di-ff erences have been detected in abundance (Mann - Whitney, p = 0.07) and wet biomass (Mann - Whitney, p = 0.15) between rising tide and falling tide in the Bay of Tumaco. Significant differences in wet biomass (Kruskal - Wallis H = 23.83, p = 0.00) and abundance (Kruskal - Wallis H = 3.53, p = 0.52) have been detected among sampling months. Temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and surface chlorophyll did not change significantly during the sampling months (Kruskal - Wallis p> 0,005), whereas tide changes show significant variations in temperature and dissolved oxygen (Mann - Whitney , p <0,005)
