Surface transport of waters in the region off the Guajira Peninsula (Colombia) is dominate alternately by a major cyclonic current in the southwestern corner of the Caribbean Sea and by wind induced coastal upwelling in yearly cycle. Observation of the yearly wind cycle and of surface salinities as affected by upwelling and by runoff from the adjacent Magdalena River provide a record of seasonal variations in the location of the zone of confluence between waters form the cyclonic current and waters from the main axis of flow of the Caribbean Sea.Downloads
