The Cromwell Current flows eastward along the equator. Its characteristics are well known in the Central Pacific but not in the Eastern Pacific, especially during an ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation) event, being the primary motivation for this study. After verifying the information in the Copernicus Global Multi-Observation Database for the period from 1993 to 2017. The maximum velocity in the meridians 170 ° W, 140 ° W, 110 ° W, and 86 ° W was used to determine changes in its evolution during ENSO events. Analysis of the Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) and the El Niño Coastal Index (ICEN), high correlations with the Cromwell Current were not detected during extreme ENSO events. A pattern of ascending pulses was identified in the intensity of the current before the extreme ENSO of 1997-1998 and 2015-2016. Also, at the maximum peaks, the anomalies of the Cromwell Current showed a considerable decrement.Downloads
