An assessment of the quality of the water was made based on two monitoring carried out in 2009 in the Tumaco, Buenaventura and Malaga bays, which constitute the most important of the colombian Pacific; in these estuarine ecosystems strong interactions occur between waters of oceanic origin and rivers, which are pronounced with climatic periods and phenomena of global action, likewise exhibit complex biogeochemical processes that interact with hydrodynamics, surrounding ecosystems, meteorological conditions, morphodynamics, anthropogenic activities, climatic period and tides, among others. As a result of the interaction of these factors and phenomena, it was confirmed that the spatial variability of levels for some physicochemical parameters evaluated as dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH and transparency, its increase gradually from the mouths of rivers seaward, behavior contrary to that presented by nutrients, chlorophyll a, the suspended solids and BOD5. The eutrophication indices for calculated phosphates, permitted to classify the bays as oligotrophic ecosystems; however, during the low tide some sectors such as station 1 in Cascajal island in Buenaventura and station 3, 8, 20 and 23 located into the Tumaco bay, exhibited characteristics of mesotrophic ecosystems, while in the station 23 was presented hypertrophic features for the sum of nitrite and nitrate. For the period of high tide, concentrations generally decreased nutrients, associated with the dilution behavior turning oligotrophic characteristics.Downloads
