Knowing the caustic phenomenon has become a topic of interest to study the functioning and effectiveness of sonars, in addition to the application of its concept on defense and antisubmarine tactics. The emergence of the phenomenon in the process of detecting underwater warships engaged in the development of military operations creates a tactical picture distorted due to the appearance of false pulses generated by the formation of a caustic inside the ring. Physically the phenomenon depends on the law of reflection of sound and using the ray method is achieved by an approach to the solution of the equation governing the problem: wave equation. This article aims to contribute to the understanding of the topic in order to have better evidence in anti-subma-rine tactics and to distinguish a true bearing and a spurious signal.Downloads
