One of the more actual aspects of the nature sciences is connected with the needs lo determine the mechanisms that will allow us lo control the pollution and to preserve the environment.
In this frame, the CIOH is developing some works, related with the numerical modelation of the hydrodynamics in the Colombian Caribbean. This paper is the result of the initial phase of these investigations.
The main characteristics of the water circulation and the influences in the transport of pollutants in the internal bay of Cartagena have been studied The results have been verified by means of nature measurements of the current drifts.
This is an important step in the numerical modelation with goal of its application in a system of control and monitoring of the marine environment. The model and its results will be used in the intercalibration of other ones. The transport block of this work is a part of the pollutant block of the future system.
