With the object of evaluating the cyclonic activity and the wave impact on the Island of San Andres, as far back as the available information and historic record allow it, a study of the identification of the paths of the tropical storms and hurricanes since 1851 that have come close to the Island of San Andres, at a distance of less than 90 miles from the wall of the storm to the insular coastline. Starting with this information, a model was made of the wind fields and wave ranges of the hurricanes that were identified and selected as typical, using the parametric wind model of Lizano and the Simulate Waves Nearshore model (SWAM). Finally, the results of the waves produced by the hurricane model that went from a regional to a local scale, and also differentiating their impact in the north as well as in the southern part of the island, were assessed and discussed. This study allowed the identification of the areas more prone to suffer the effects of the waves produced by these cyclones.Downloads
