Abstract

Satellite data of chlorophyll-a, wind field and sea surface temperature for a period of 12 years, on the area of influence of upwelling system of the La Guajira peninsula, are used for analysis by MTM-SVD, in order to get an overview of the main frequency variability, determine the fraction of variance explained for each of these frequencies, and determine their patterns of oscillation, both stationary or propagation. It is that the annual and semiannual signal dominate the system behavior outcrop on the La Guajira peninsula, significantly. The annual signal is associated with fluctuations in the efforts of the trade winds, while the semiannual signal due to the increase in the intensity of the winds that occurs as a result of latitudinal decrease in low Azores amending isobaric field region, allowing the genesis of "San Juan" summer. Relations between the annual performance of the wind field and the occurrence of El Niño and La Niña established, showing consistency between the system response and atmospheric disturbances that are generated as a result of the intervention of ENSO.
