Abstract

To determine the sources it was necessary to consider the human activities In the surroundings, such as the rice fields, which have been located on the East Side of the coastal lagoon, for decades. To the south there are severa! open sewage canals with wastewater from the city that goes into coastal lagoon with out any treatment.

DDT, ODD,DDE and Linden were found In the soil and waters coming from the rice fields although they have not used for that purpose since three years ago varies so the organochlorine compounds were found in both wet and dry seas ons showing us their show degradation and persistence. The dry season concentration varies from O to 1.426 ng/g and 157 the wet season from O to 10.678 ng/g for sediment.

PCB´s were also detected in the wet season especially at the sample station located near the sewage channel; these PCBs seems to be transported by the water and were also detected at the sample stations located in the opening that communicates the coastal lagoon with the Caribbean Sea.

DDT, DDD, DDE were also detected in a fish caught on the coastal lagoon. The scarce presence of fish and bivalves in these waters Is remarkable.
