Abstract

The Charnock's roughness parameterization of sea surface corresponds the asymptotic state of well-developed waves under neutral stratification conditions of the near-surface layer of the atmosphere. The intention of the present paper is to combine the atmospheric stability conditions, the “wave age” and a non-parametric wave spectrum, in order to join the wave development processes with its influence on winds and impulse transfer toward the sea surface. Anew parameterization is formulated which takes into consideration mechanical wind-generated turbulence, as well as the thermal one, generally related to the strong or light instability of the near-surface layer at the Caribbean Sea.
