This paper is the continuation of one written by the same authors in 1995 about the transport of pollutants in the Internal Bay of Cartagena (Sci. Bull. CIOH N. 16). Using capabilities of the MECCA model, the water movement of the Internal Bay of Cartagena and its system of channels and lagoons has been studied for the meteorological an tidal conditions, presented in August of 1995. Taking into account the currents calculated along the central axis of the system, the water interchange and renovation time has been defined.
The result of the modelation shows a predominance of the residual currents, originated by the tides and variation of the wind field, in the intensification of the water renovation in the channels. Likewise, the evacuation of the water form the channels in the east sector of the Internal Bay is a important factor for the pollution of the place.
